Arusi paruppu saadham is my native special, easy to cook and delicious to eat recipe. And this is the most people’s favorite recipe of my region. Also my family members favorite recipe. Let us know the simplest recipe.

Serves : 2- 3 people

Total time needed : 20-25mins
Ingredients :
* Rice – 1 cup
* Moong dal – 4-5 tablespoons
For Seasoning and Saute :
* Coconut oil / oil – 1 1/2 tblspn
*Bay leaves – 1 no
* Cinnamon stick – 1 small no
* Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp
* Cumin seeds – 1/2 tsp
* Fennel seeds – 1/2 tsp
* Clove – 1 no
* Shallots / Onions – 15-20 / 1 big onion
* Dry red chilli – 1 just for flavor
* Curry leaves – 2 strings
* Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp
* Homemade sambhar powder – 1 tblspn ( or as per your spice level)
For Grinding :
* Shredded Coconut – 1 1/2 tblspn
* Garlic – clove
* Ginger – small piece
* Cinnamon stick – 1 small piece
* Fennel seeds –
* Water little amount to grind
Adding Finally :
* Salt as needed
* Water – 2 cups
* Coriander leaves / cilantro to sprinkle on the top
Preparation Instructions:
1. Soak the rice and dal for 20 minutes and drain the water completely.
2. Heat the pressure cooker / Instant pot in saute mode and add oil and the spices in the Ingredients for seasoning above and let it splutter.
3. Add Onions, curry leaves, red chilli and saute until it gets soft .
4. Then add Turmeric powder, Saambhar powder and saute for few seconds.
5. Add the drained rice and dal and mix well. Then add salt .
6. Grind Shredded Coconut ,garlic, ginger, cinnamon stick and fennel seeds along with little amount of water into a paste.
7. Add the paste to in the cooker after adding salt and saute for 30 seconds and pour water and mix well.
8. Cook it for 3 whistles in pressure cooker / normal rice mode in Instant pot .
9. Let the pressure release normally and open the lid.
10. Sprinkle the coriander leaves / cilantro and give a gentle mix .
11. Recipe is ready to serve with ghee.

8. Meanwhile Grind Shredded Coconut ,
garlic, ginger, cinnamon stick and
fennel seeds along with little
amount of water.

9. Into a paste.

10. Add the paste to in the rice and
saute for 30 seconds.

11. Add water and mix well.

12. Cook it for 3 whistles in pressure cooker /
normal rice mode in Instant pot .


13. Let the pressure release normally,
open the lid and add
coriander leaves.

14. Mix gently together.

15. Recipe is ready to serve with ghee.

Note for the dish :
1. You can add Thoor dal instead of Moong dal.
2. If you wish more spicy, you can add one dry red chilli while grinding the coconut paste.
3. Do not make the rice sticky, it has to be served with the moisture consistency.
4. The recipe can be served with simply ghee, curd and pickle also.
